Anyone see it? I finally did and I won't lie. I loved it. I would like to live in that world. So trippy.

A buddy of mine saw it and hated it. I've never even seen the first one.

i'd like to see this in the theater.. but i'm strapped right now.
i don't get why disney didn't re-release the first tron movie before this one came out.. really, did they think it would help to release a sequel to a 25 year old movie and not release the first one on DVD/BR for people to refresh their memory? silly

i see a 2 pack blueray coming up in the near future.

I agree. I have it on DVD. I don't think seeing the first one would be all that crucial in appreciating the new one. It certainly made for some cool moments having seen the first so many times for me when I saw this new one.

I've been a fan of the original since childhood... so much so that I bought the 20th anniversary DVD release 8 years ago. I've been amazed over the past year at how many people around my age have never heard of or seen the original.

However, I think they made the sequel in such a way that it's not necessary to see the original, and honestly, trying to show the original to people these days would probably only hurt the franchise. It was ground-breaking at the time, and I still love it, but I loaned my DVD to at least a dozen people over the past few months in preparation for the sequel, and most of them came back saying... "Eh... it was ok. I guess it was probably pretty cool in 1982."

Most people are jaded, and just can't appreciate the original. Even the sequel isn't that strong on plot, and mostly relies on visual effects and the Daft Punk soundtrack. That being said, I still really enjoyed it (even though we drove to New Orleans to see it on Imax, and the screen we ended up watching it on was no bigger than any normal theater these days. I'm really not sure how they are getting away with calling themselves an Imax theater!)

ive seen the first one probably 25 or 30 times.. i fucking love it.
i see how it could hurt it some.. the first wasnt real great looking compared to what you have now in the industry. i imagine that some people just couldnt appreciate it because of that alone.

the imax you went to was that small? the one here is 2 1/2 stories tall.
did it cost the same as any other imax? please tell me the sound and 3d was at least ok.
